My idea is that stripping the driver down to the "inbox" driver, or the driver that is preinstalled with Windows, then allowing the update, should result in a healthy Ethernet adapter and connection. I will share my idea with you, though, and hopefully it will help you. To duplicate the issue enough to know for sure.
